Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has launched R|Elan™ GreenGold, a fabric that establishes a global benchmark for verified sustainability.

The textile sector has faced challenges with unsubstantiated assertions of "recycled polyester" derived from PET bottles, leading to worries about greenwashing and diminishing consumer confidence. In response, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has launched R|Elan™ GreenGold, a fabric that establishes a global benchmark for verified sustainability. Composed entirely of post-consumer PET bottles, R|Elan™ GreenGold combines responsible sourcing, traceable systems, and scientifically-backed evidence to guarantee authenticity at every step.

What Distinguishes R|Elan™ GreenGold?

Closed-Loop, Responsible Sourcing

R|Elan™ GreenGold differs from traditional recycled polyester by operating within a brand-controlled ecosystem that meticulously tracks every bottle collected, flaked, and spun into fiber. Utilizing reverse vending machines, reliable on-ground channels, and strict vendor compliance with labor and environmental standards, Reliance has established end-to-end transparency from waste collection to the final fabric.

Scientific Validation Through IPA Testing

A major challenge in sustainable textiles is proving authenticity. R|Elan™ GreenGold addresses this with Isophthalic Acid (IPA) testing—a chemistry-based method that confirms the fiber’s origin from PET bottles. Independent global-standard tests consistently validate GreenGold at approximately 1.8% IPA content, providing brands with undeniable proof of recycled authenticity.

Beyond Fabric – A Sustainability Initiative

RIL has transformed GreenGold into a platform promoting circularity and awareness:

Empowering stakeholders – from spinners to global brands – with sustainability-focused practices.

Encouraging entrepreneurs to integrate recycling and waste reduction into business models.

Supporting designers with R|Elan™ GreenGold fabrics to make sustainability mainstream in fashion.

Circular Design Challenge (CDC) – a flagship platform, now global, fostering design talent in recyclability and circular fashion.

The Earth Tee – an annual World Environment Day initiative where limited-edition tees, made from GreenGold, are sold through NGOs, with proceeds going towards tree planting.
